it all started…
… damn, its almost twenty years now.
Jurassic Fart dates back to 1993. I was a freshman at The Bronx High School of Science (lot of good going there did me, but anyway). For Trigonometry class (or for those who want to be techinical, “Sequential Mathematics II” as it was called then), I had this old teacher with this crazy notion of how to teach. It was called “Students Helping Students.” It was crazy. Basically the students taught each other while she earned a paycheck.
Jurassic Park was in theaters that previous summer. I didn’t get to see it, but I had read the book.
Did I mention this teacher was old? If you went to Science or have any idea what SQS is, or was, you know who I’m talking about. To protect the innocent (for now), I will not mention her name here.
To pass the time in class, I drew comics of said teacher somehow ending up on Isla Nublar, ultimately to be eaten by dinosaurs. They were crudely drawn as I am no artist, and you’ll probably never see them here as they were thrown out long ago. However, it was a fun way to pass the time.
Fast forward a few years. I’m now working full time, and inspiration hits to me revive Jurassic Fart. Who really cares why? However, my drawing skills still really suck. I can’t deny that.
I ended up purchasing a copy of LightWave 3D, and figured I could do a 3D version of Jurassic Fart. ten years later, with the hours I spend on my job, I still can’t do much more than a cube in LightWave, much less a 3D movie. So, I’ve done a little work, and the focus is more of a 2D cartoonish look.
And I’ve dropped the idea of an animated feature or short, and will probably just do a comic format, a homage to Fart’s humble beginnings. If I ever get that far. Maybe in ten years. Just in time for my 20th High School Reunion (not like I’ve gone to the fifth or tenth anyway), and no one will remember.
Stay tuned if you know what I am babbling about, I’ll post some artwork here as its completed.
